Tifo Roundup - MLS Matchweek One
MLS is back, and with it the TIFOS! Ahhh how we missed the tifos. Fans showed up to matchweek one with some great designs, and touching tributes. What a way to kick off a new year and what’s sure to be an exciting season.
Austin FC
Fans of Austin FC always know how to bring it, and this year’s tifo at their season opener is no exception. This design is just as much a tribute to the fans as to the game of soccer itself. Too bad they had to endure a loss to the brand new St. Louis CITY SC!
Nashville SC
Nashville SC celebrate reigning MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar with this tifo. “Man In Black” of course refers to Johnny Cash, who inspired this year’s kits for the team.
Orlando City SC
Florida Man is at it again! This tifo could be made by no other than Orlando City FC, featuring “Florida Man” riding on the backs of two alligators lassoed by chains. Oh, and the gators are munching on a flamingo and what looks like a trophy? Comment if you know the answer! Seems like a wild idea to pitch for a tifo, but in Florida, nothing is far fetched when it comes to alligators and soccer.
FC Cincinnati
Loving the warm fuzzies this tifo for FC Cincinnati is giving. Nothing like celebrating the team with its colors of blue and orange, with Cincinnati landmarks showcased as well. The fans are showing up for FC Cincinnati, with the season opener selling out the stadium.
Seattle Sounders FC
What’s better for the Seattle Sounders: a 4-0 win against Colorado, or this tifo of coach Brian Schmetzer depicted as a DJ? And when are we going to see DJ Schmetzer’s gold chain in the MLS store?
Charlotte FC
Charlotte FC came out with its usual queen imagery (a-la “Queen City”), but also paid a special tribute to Charlotte player Anton Walkes, who died as a result of a boating accident earlier this year. The banner below the queen reads “For Anton, Forever”. There were also Number 5s on display across the stadium throughout the evening.
Atlanta United FC
Anton Walkes played at Atlanta United FC for three seasons before his move to Charlotte. Atlanta fans paid a touching tribute, as well, back from his time in red.
